Question:

How do i learn to do the splits in a short amount of time?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I personally think there isn't really a way to do it in a very short time. My first dance teacher told me: do the splits once a day everyday for a year. I skipped a few days (er, okay, quite a few) but by the end of the year, I was within a foot of getting all the way down.

Stretches I recommend before trying the splits:
- Deep lunges. 1) Step one leg forward and bend the knee, 2) Move down as if going to do the splits but keeping forward knee bent at a right angle, 3) Keep back foot flexed (so you're resting on your toes with that foot), 4) keep front knee at right angle/over toes and back knee straight, 5) Push your hips downward making sure your front knee stays over the toes
- Thigh stretch. 1) Do a deep lunge, 2) Put your back knee on the ground, 3) Bend the knee bringing your back foot to your bottom, 4) Grab back foot with opposing arm (L arm for R foot, R arm for L foot) and pull it against your bottom
- Bottom muscle stretch. 1) Sit crosslegged, 2) Pick one foot up and rest it on opposite knee (L foot on top of R knee or R foot on top of L knee), 3) Other foot should be beneath other knee so your legs are sort of piled on each other, 4) If you can't feel anything in your bottom/thigh of the leg on the top of the pile, bend forward trying to touch your tummy on your legs

There are more but those are just three of my favourites.
