Question:

My husband is a very good dancer, but I have 2 MAJOR left feet. Can I be taught to dance and not look DUMB?

I can keep a beat...but not for long. I get lost pretty quick. I can dance in my SEAT...but not standing up. No hip movement. Of course I get better as I drink more, but that is not what I want. I want to get out there and impress my husband totally (not knock his socks off...but impress him :)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I figure by now you already tried asking your husband to teach you. (If you didn't - try asking him, it can be nice and romantic) If it didn't bring the results you want, don't despair - if he has no experience teaching, no wonder he can't teach effectively, no matter how romantic it gets between you two.

I think you should start taking classes and be prepared to be patient with yourself. All of it can be developed, but it takes time, practice and good instructions. My definition of good instructions are the ones that make sence to YOU. Find instructor who can make it clear to you, and go for it! It is simpler than you think, even for those with 2 left feet. I seriously think that "2 left feet" is not an absolute problem, all it means you need clearer instrictions.

It is no wonder that dancing in your seat is easier - you have a lot less to manage. Your brain doesn't have to worry about sending signals to your feet. Now you need to "teach" your feet to "listen" to instructions. All this stuff like "ooh, just feel the music" never worked on me. Yeah, I feel the music, now what? Until I got into a training program I wasn't that good of a dancer either.

OK, enough talk :-) Go to http://www.ballroomdancers.com or http://www.accessdance.com and find yourself some classes. Go to a few different ones and see which ones work for you.
