Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: 1. It's all about confidence. If you look comfortable, you won't look like an idiot, no matter what you do.
2. If you can, take a lesson, a lot of schools offer free private lessons to try to draw in students.
3. Listen to the beat and move to it. Less is more. Basically, look at what others are doing and match it (or a bit less).
4. Smile. Look like you are having fun and the dance floor is where you want to be. Pretty soon, you might believe it yourself.
5. Relax. People probably aren't looking at you since there are so many people dancing and it is somewhat dark and people are looking at their partner, etc. Don't stiffen up, which is probably the most common mistake.
6. Don't try to be too flashy.
7. The most important thing when dancing with a partner is to make her feel good. If she can dance, let her shine. Pick up what she is doing and mirror it back. Don't apologize unless you step on her foot or kick her. Make a joke out of it.
