Question:

Stage fright?

My 8 year old sister is very embarrassed about dancing in front of a ot of people at my aunts wedding. It will mean so much to my aunt and our routine will be absolutely screwed without lucinda [sister] what can i do or say to help her overcoem this.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I focus on the routine and what I have to do, it helps take my mind off the audience. The night before i usually am nervous, but the day of i am only thinking of what needs to be done and the steps. Once I get going I no longer worry about the audience until I am done, and then it doesn't matter.

Another thought is to find something that will make her giggle without totally ruining her concentration. When she gets stressed and right before you begin, bring it up. This should lessen her stress for at least a few seconds before performing.

Something I say to help someone who is freezing up back stage is, "You know this. All you have to do, is do it like we practiced."

Another thought is, "Even if you make a mistake, everyone (especially your aunt) will love that you got up and performed for them."

If she is worried about being teased or what people will say, this might be helpful. Only those who get up and dance/perform get to have a negative opinion. Most times people who sit on the sidelines and ridicule are too scared to get up themselves and are trying to hide their insecurity.

The most important thing is to have fun!!!

Hope this helps!
