Question:

How do dancers spin incessantly without growing dizzy or off-balance?

I was watching an old black and white movie the other day, the dancer, whose name I forget, was the only female dancer ever to have actually made Astaire nervous, as related by Astaire. She was really incredible. Picture a dance floor in the shape of a circle and 1/3 the size of a football field. This is an exaggeration but it's appropriate. She danced in circles the circumfrence of the circle and then into the center without faltering once. How do they do this?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: they turn there head before there body turns fully. its called spotting which is one of the key things a dancer has to know how to do. what you do is when you spin focus on an object you are spinning towards and everytime you spin around you look at that object. it helps dancers balance and it keeps you from not getting really dizzy even tough you still do a little bit
