How do I get started with learning Modern Dance techniques/dances?

While at a dance competition yesterday, I saw several groups/solos doing Modern Dance. I loved it! I cannot find anyone around here that teaches it. Does anyone know of videos etc or places close to New Orleans that teaches this style?
