Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I dance cumbia. It is similar to salsa. Here is how to dance Cumbia:

1. Know and listen to the Cumbia music.

You dance Cumbia with Cumbia music. The rhythm of Cumbia follows a three beat pattern in a bar of note. There is a strong down beat on the third beat. Listen to the third beat. After the third beat is a pause. The count is 1, 2, 3 (break) and pause

2. Starting the dance for men, march the first two steps on the first and second beat... 1 and 2, with 1 by stepping your left foot in-place on the first beat; then 2 by stepping your right foot in place on the second beat. If you are a woman, do the reverse in-steps, step first with your right foot, then left.

3. Break your foot at the third beat. Breaking means moving your body and foot. If you are a man, you will usually move or break with your left foot on the third beat. If you are a woman, break with your right foot. Wait for the down beat at the third beat of a bar of measure in the cumbia music. Once you hear the down beat (also called clave), move your foot (man - left foot; woman - right foot), stepping backward in a circular motion.

Try it out with a music.

If its your first time to dance it, try enjoy the music first by dancing with the patterns I mentioned here. For first timers, I wouldn't advise partner dancing.
