Question:

Is yoga pants,a Cami or shirt w/ shoes OK to wear at ballet practice?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The problem that ballet teachers have with yoga pants is that they usually cover up your ankles so the instructor can't see what you're doing with them, and they're easy to trip on. If you can cut them off to just above or just below the knee, that's fine. Camis are always fine (put a sports bra underneath); everyone in my ballet classes wears one over her leotard just to look less dorky, and I always wear them 'cause two layers of fabric offers a bit cleaner line and more tummy support. T-shirts of any kind - even tight ones - are a no-no. They cover up too much of what your teacher needs to see to be sure you aren't developing bad movement habits or moving in a way that might cause injury now or later.

Do you have ballet shoes? Do not wear street shoes (street shoes are usually not allowed on studio flooring anyway). If you don't, you can wear socks or cut the heel out of a pair of socks (like a circle cut, leaving the rest intact) because whole socks are nearly always too slippery.

If you can't afford tights from a ballet catalog, go to the store (Target would probably be your best bet). Even tight capri leggings are OK. I just bought a pair of capri tights from Gadzooks (I wear black tights). And you can get a pair of ballet slippers for like $13 online, though technically you should go to a dance retailer and get sized. Here are sites with cheap ballet stuff:
