Most reputable teachers will be able to teach either leaders and followers part, and they won't mind teaching same-sex student. In fact, I'd say, if your potential teacher says she/he is not teaching the same sex student, I'd have second thoughts about taking lessons with them. (In my experience, teaching same sex is slightly easier than teaching opposite sex because we are natuarlly more familiar with our own steps then with our partner steps. If they insist on opposite sex student - that might mean they are happy to dance with your for your own money, but they don't know enough to actualy teach.) Call and ask. They might ask why, just in order to get some idea what are your dancing goals. Be ready to state your reasons. |
