Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Pointe and ballet shoes are two different things; ballet shoes are flat, and can be split soled or have one sole. Pointe shoes are hard on the end (it's called a box) so you can go "on your toes." Ballet shoes would be ok, since you really can't damage your feet and ankles in them; they cost about 20 dollars, and you can buy them from any dance store. Pointe shoes, on the other hand, cost 50 to 70 dollars, and you have to get them proparly fitted at a very good dance store. In addition, if you have never danced before or you don't have strong ankles, you really shouldn't try to dance in them, because you could easily break or sprain an ankle. Talk to yyour musical director to find out if she is ok with flats; you can still get ribbons to tie around your ankles so they look like pointe, shoes, and you will be far less likely to get hurt.
