War is an ungly thing, but not the ugliest thing. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings that would have you think that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing with which he is willing to fight for, nothing which is more important than his own safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made and keep so, by the exerstions of better men than themselves.
