what is it about, as iam thinking of purchasing a copy and am just wondering what it is like? a good read?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: To put it briefly, the first book in the series is about Ged, a young wizard-in-training who, sue to his arrogance, releases a darkness into Earthsea that only he can banish. He travels to the end of the world to correct his mistake.

The series is sublime, one of the greatest fantasy sequences ever written. LeGuin's style is spare and refreshing compared to most modern bloated fantasy series. I recommend it to everyone on Earth....Sea.
