Question:

Maybe this is a little harsh?

I'm sure many people will disagree with me on this, but do you think in recent years that "great modern works of literature" has declined tremendously? I'm talking about novels like The Davinci Code and Harry Potter- I just don't think they have the same substance that the classics had. Anyone else agree??

alirob66- I have, in fact, read Anthem and A Prayer for Owen Meany, and by all means, wonderful, substance-full novels. Yet what disgusts me are these novels that are considered "great" and acclaimed for their literary merit that seem to have no substance to them whatsoever.
