Question:

Hi, I'm learning photography and I want to know what aperture size to use for still life?

I'm using artificial light only and natural light only. Thanks.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It depends on what items you want in sharp focus. The smaller the aperture (the larger the f-number) the more in focus things will be that are closer and farther away than the point you focus on.

If you have a plain background it is often best to use a small aperture such as f/16 so all the objects in the still life are sharp. But you definitely don't want a busy background being sharp and competing with the objects for the viewers' attention.

Try taking some photos with different apertures and see which you like better.
