What makes pavarotti more famous than domingo???

to me donmingo has a much more colorful voice ! Pavarotti's voice is way too light. I have listened to songs which they both have sang. I guess when talking about portamento , pavarotti has a better technique than domingo , but thats about it. tell me what you think.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Most people are of the opinion that Mr. Pavarotti's actual technique is a notch above that of Mr. Domingo. As a mere mortal and lesser singer, I agree with this. it is quite easy to watch Pavarotti sing and experience the ease with which he produces his tones. A major detraction levelled at him over the years, is that his method is so even and smooth that it gets a bit boring, especially if it's a recording of him only. One aria seems to blend into the next....
Mr Domngo's technique is different. He has tension in his tongue base and jaw which he constantly strives to master. ( If you look at the original 3 tenors concert in Rome for the Football World Cup of 1990, you will see close-ups of his tongue under tension.) this causes a "tighter" sound that many consider to be more exciting as well. Certainly the excess energy it engenders adds to that.
I had the distinct pleasure of hearing both gentlemen live in the late 70s/early 80s, and while the technical differences are evident, I will never be able to say who is "better". this is always a matter of personal taste. frankly, tenors are not so common that we can afford to denigrate any of them!
