Question:

Audition question!?

What type of music should I sing at an audition for Fiddler on the Roof? Should I sing traditional musical theatre or what? \

Help! I am not asking what song to sing, just tell me what style and I can find the song.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Best to know the show well (do your homework!) and have some idea of what character you would like to play, and get some outside advice as to what would best suit you... sometimes your vision of what would be best for you might not be the most objective. Unless they specifically ask you to NOT sing something from the show (which is sometimes the case), try to find an excerpt of an easier song from the show that your potential character might sing. Whatever you choose, make sure you sound good on it.

If you choose something not from the show, stick with a traditional musical theatre song... no opera or art songs.

As far as music, most decent music stores have either books of music from specific shows or collections. If you want lots of music for less $$ you can get a Fake Book, but you have to find a pianist that is comfortable playing from chords only.

Sites like eightnotes.com have songs with sheet music available for download (for a feee, of course).

GOOD LUCK!
