Can anyone recommend a book on subdivision or a clear process ?

I am looking to simply find a book that will clearly explain subdividing each longer note in relation to the smallest unit in the piece.I would really like a suggestion or a book would be even better where this concerned. I am trying to establish impeccable rhythm when it come to reading a reading a rhythm that I have never seen.Or it is possibly any note values that can be reciprocated such dotted eighth and so fourth.Dotted notes and ties am looking to learn rhythm quicker.Even more specifically notes that are tie to half of there value.Please help me with this process.


Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well, as far as abook goes, any book on music theory would help. But, basically for subdiving, just think (for example..in 4):
1 2 3 4
1&2&3&4& (1and...) (8ths)
1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a (16ths. ...If you have an 8th connected to two 16ths, 1 anda)
For a dotted quarter as an example, think 1and2.
There are other ways besides numbers to help play a rhythm accurately as well. For a triplet (8th) think trip-o-let.
I find that if you know how to read relatively well, it shouldn't be too big of a problem. I came into a jam 9 years ago when I was in 7th grade and we had a syncopated rhythm that I just couldn't get. I sat down and figured it out by saying the 1e&a pattern and drawing arrows to find the downbeats and upbeats. After that, I could pretty much read any rhythm.
