Why are human beings self-destructive?

Does this fact not make us the most counter-productive beings ever to establish a foothold on this rock we call HOME!(earth)

My POV:
we are doing everything possible to destroy ourseves. We have enough nuclear weapons to kill everyone on earth more than once.
We ignore those who nedd and want help. We separate ourselves by labeling eachother white or black or asian or "american" and Mexican, African and European. Even religion, that which trumps all, was created to justify genocide and war... Just to create an imagined difference to justify violence against eachother
