Question:

Passenger Documents!?

I've done research on the family of August Hartman and he came to the United States with his family as Auguste. All that is, except his father, also named Auguste Hartman. August II came here on La Normandie from LeHavre, France in 1888. Can anyone help me find when his father may have came to New York? He came from Alsace-Lorraine, France which at the time was Elsass-Lotharingen, German Empire. He was born in 1856 which was during France's Second Empire. In case it helps, his family's names were:

Marie/Mary: Wife
Andr㩯Andrew: Son
Marguerite/Margaret: Daughter
Joseph: Son
Adolphe/Adolf: Son
Antoine/Anthony: Son
Nicolaus/Nichloas: Son
Peter: Son

Aldophe, Peter, and Nicolaus were all born in Buffalo, Ny. The rest were born in an unknown location in the Alsace and Lorraine (Alsace-Lorraine) region of France. (Or at the time Germany.)

I want to know if anyone can help me by find when August(e) (the first) came to New York, USA. Also where he came from since he took a different ship than his wife and kids.

August(e) lived in Buffalo, New York and he died between 1900 and 1910. The 1910 census has his wife Mary as a widow. He was born in 1856.

He probably did come from Alsace, and not the portion of Lorraine that constituted Alsace-Lorraine, also because his son was likely named after St. Nicolaus, the Patron Saint of Alsace. Odile is Lorraine's... but idk if this helps because he is believed to have spoke english before he came to the USA.
