Question:

My fourteen year old son is a great guitar player-?

when he plays his guitar downtown people say he's really good and give him money-how can I help him embark on a career as a musician?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Support him however you can, but don't push. Follow his lead. You didn't mention the genre of music he plays, but if you can supplement his natural talent by giving him lessons, by all means do it. When the time is right, send him to a musical summer camp. Let him audition for scholarships, encourage him to seek out opportunities for performance experience in a variety of venues. Get in touch with your local arts organizations in nearby communities. Encourage him to attend performances. If he wants to pursue this as a career (assuming he plays classical guitar, but even if he doesn't) find someone who can teach him the proper musical theory. Such things will give him a huge step up if he pursues his instrument through college.

Whatever happens, support him. If he wants to take it to the highest level, let him. If he wants to back away, let him do that, too. Help him devour as much knowledge as he has an interest in devouring.
