Question:

Should English haikus be written in the 5-7-5 or the 3-5-3 stanza?

The original Japanese haikus are 5-7-5 but it has been pointed out that the Japanese language has more syllables per word on average than English. Some people suggest that English haikus should use the 3-5-3 meter in order to mirror the Japanese scarcity of word. What do you think?
