It was very hard for the british to keep their armies supplied, simply due to the vast distances between them and the war. This caused many problems.

The same could be said about the americans during viet nam.

Local Militia:

When a country is invaded by another, many citizens will rise up and fight the invaders. This happened in the US of course against brittain, as well as in viet nam. It makes it very hard to fight a war when you have civilians taking pot shots at you as well.

Not to mention, when we were in viet nam, we pretty much got our butts handed to us, kind of like the brittish did :)
