Question:

How do you interpret Macbeths Reaction To Banquo's Ghost?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Guilt. But NB it was Duncan not Macbeth that was murdered on Macbeth's instructions!

The importance of this moment in the Scottish play is that Macbeth almost gives himself away to the assembled thanes and guests at a feast.

He orders the guests to depart in a peremptpry gesture that is the height of rudeness: "Stay not upon the order of your going, but go, go at once!"

Lady Macbeth has to cover for him, saying he is unwell. But one can imagine he has not done his credibility much good in their minds by talking to invisible figures none but he can see.

The cracks are beginning to show.
