Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Its not a poem. Its a common opening line for a limerick. Limericks are 5 lines, with the first, second, and fifth lines rhyming, while the third and fourth rhyme together.

Here is the original to your question...

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket.
But his daughter, named Nan,
Ran away with a man
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.

The last line is a joke to mean that Nan, (his daughter), took the bucket of money. "And as for the bucket, Nan took it."

But, there are a lot of limericks made up with the start of..."There once was a man from Nantucket..."

Make up your own. Limericks are easy to come up with.

Heres one I just made up...

Limericks can be easy to do,
but they may be harder for you.
Find a subject thats fun,
before long, you'll be done.
And it may be quite funny, too.

Good luck.
