Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Practiceing cord, notes, reading music. If your practicing on a daily routine you should now have callouses. How many method books have you done, there's usually twelve, I know when I first went to music school there were books that I had to go through, it was a three year course and I did it in two, because I put a lot of time into it. While I was working on those books I would also practice cords seperatly in order to learn how to do them easily and smoothly. Later I went on to practice classical guitar, which took a lot of daily practice. It's also good to practice scales in order to learn how to play in all keys, to familiarze yourself with what gets sharped and what gets flated. In guitar there's always something to practice unless your a genius and don't have to practice that much. The more songs you work on the better you'll get at it. You didn't say what style that you play, like I said I play classical but recently I bought myself and acoustic and love playing songs like "Tears in Heaven" finger style. I think if I live to be a hundred the'll always be something to practice on guitar. Did you start out with a teacher? For what you've said, I'm assuming that you didn't, and are just playing cords, is that correct? If so go to Sam Ash and get your self a book in the style that your interested in, ask the clerk for help, most of them play themselves so they know what their doing, get a book with a Cd in the back so that you can follow your progress. So get a method book, scale book, a cord book, and maybe a book that could keep you from getting bored, perhaps a finger style song book, that should keep you busy !!!!! When you wanted to know what to practice, can you make barre cords like an F and then are you able to switch to another cord smoothly and without diffficulty? If you get a couple of books from Sam's you'll see there's a lot to study !!!!! hope this helps, check out these sites !!!!!
