Question:

What are the rights involving reproduction of artworks/print?

For example. If you own an original painting, do you have the right to make reproductions to sell? And how does it work in the case of limited edition prints (UK-based)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: This is a very complicated question. I'm afraid that the answer is probably "No." To simply reproduce without selling , you contact the museum or foundation that holds the reproduction rights for famous artists. Sometimes it is actually the family of that artist. In the case of an individual owner, he/she may have puchased reproduction rights when the work was purchased. It's best to contact the artst or dealer to make certain. Some works by famous artists (the Mona Lisa for example) belong in the public domain. These rules apply to paintings and limited edition prints.
