Question:

Do you think they should make 'the hobbit' into a movie?

and if they did who would play bilbo and don't you think they should film the shire in england which is what i think of when i read the book. The shire should have oak trees (english oak) the shire in the LOTR new zealand set didn't quite do it for me at all, but the mountain scenes were good.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Personally I think they should still make "The Hobbit" a movie. Given the world-wide financial and critical success of the movies, apparently the studios are trying to get it going, but it's been complicated. New Line has been sued by director Peter Jackson as well as minor actors in the series (they are separate suits, apparently). MGM holds the rights to "The Hobbit" and has been in negotiations, but things are not going anywhere, really.

There's been talk of Ian Holm (Bilbo in the trilogy) reprising his role with the use of makeup and technology. I think it'd be doable, but if not, then another actor. I believe Elijah Wood has dismissed the idea of him being Bilbo.

I don't think it'll be the end of the world if Peter Jackson does not direct/write/co-produce "The Hobbit". It had a different feeling from the "Lord of the Rings" books, and so a different director might not be so bad. He'd probably do a great job if he did do it though.

If not, Ian Mckellen has suggested that "The Hobbit" be made into a television series (it'd be something like 24 parts, I'll bet...)
