Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It was a project by students Whitwell Middle School in Whitwell, Tennessee. The rail car sat at the Middle School and housed the Children's Holocaust Memorial. They filled the rail car with 6 million paperclips. There was a documentary made about the project. They had collected 1,000 paperclips from family and friends. They then wrote politicians, actors and athletes, who actually sent more paperclips. By the end of the first year, they had collected 160,000 clips. This was in 1998. On November 9, 2001, they had dedicated the memorial with over 11 million paperclips to represent the 6 million Jews and 5 million others that perished in the camps.
