Question:

Do I tell you the truth or do I lie?

When I write a poem I write about the truth or Lie

I didn??t know how to approach you
And I didn??t I know how to ask you for help.

I was afraid that you would call the cops
I afraid of the shame.
I wasn??t letting any one restrain me
Afraid that you would even try.
I try to bolt I tried and lied.

I new that I needed help I didn??t know how to cope.
The voice that were within told be to free.
I wanted to run I wanted to hide I just couldn??t stand,
The voices that were inside.

I dare not tell you, as you will have to tell
If I share will you my pain then I share my truth.

Those voices will not let you get close inside as
Laura is there to protect me from all of your shame.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's very interesting, but it isnt a poem. This is prose broken up in lines to mimic poetry. The difference between poetry and prose is the lyrical quality and flow. It isnt here. Poetry is meant to be read aloud. You should be able to hear the lyrical quality in it. If you read this aloud, it isnt here. Even free verse has meter to it. This falls totally out of any kind of flow in the second line, which is way too long. Read it aloud line by line and listen.

If it said

"I didnt know how to approach you
And ask you if you would help

You should be able to hear the meter there - see??

It needs work. I give it a 5 as it is with a potential 7 with some rewrites. Pax- C
