Question:

I want to act?

I want to get into acting but I don't know the first place to start.
I don't know how to get an agent. I feel as though I'm not attractive enough anyway. Society generally wants highly attractive people to watch and entertain them, right? What should I do?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You are what you think you are. If you think you are unattractive, you probably are.
My point being, you have to have confidence in this industry! -Then, you will be a truly beautiful person!

Now, to get started in acting, you have to start small, and work your way up.

Start by doing local plays, commercials, informercials and print work.

Once you have built up your resume, send that along with your headshot and cover letter to various agencies.

To find legitamate agencies look on www.sag.org or www.aftra.org .

After 4-6 weeks, you will be contacted if an agency is interested in you. If you are not contacted after the 4-6 weeks, it is acceptable to send postcards to the same agencies with your headshot on one side, and resume on the other.

By then, one should have been hooked, and you should be signed! -See it's that easy!

Then, your agent should be able to set you up with auditions so that you can advance to regional work. Once you have lots more experience, and are pretty known, move up to national and international work.

And, ta-da! You're now a well known, professional actor!

Good Luck, hope you make it!
