Question:

What should a copywriting portfolio look like?

I'm putting together my portfolio and i thought i had a good book going. After applying and hearing that my book wasn't put together right and didn't look right i'm confused. What should a portfolio for a copywriter look like specificly?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I assume that you are a copywriter for advertising.
I'm an art director going to a portfolio school. I have heard a lot of opinions and here's s list of what I think:
1) don't label yourself as a copywriter. you are foremost a creative person.
2) although a copywriter should show excellent use of the English language, you'll be hired for your ability to think fresh ideas.
3) most people don't read long copy.
4) most CD don't like campaigns with headlines.
5) companies hires people not campaigns. the campaigns you have are an extension to ur personality.they Say something about you, about who you are, how you see the world.

This is what i have gathered in my two years of hearing lost of critics of my book. A lot of the advice I have received has been mixed but the 5 advices I listed are my fav.

I wish you luck.

PS, there'sno formula for a portfolio.the key is that it should look like you.
