Question:

What is your fav haruki murakami book and why?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I am struggling to find one favourite one!!

I absolutely loved Wild Sheep Chase -- although I read somewhere that some people consider it dire..
I then went on reading the sequel, Dance Dance Dance, which is very good as well.

Norwegian Wood is, I believe, his first novel, and it was brilliant.. Then there's the Wind-up bird chronicle.. brilliant as well..

I really enjoy his short stories, although I must say that I often feel frustrated after finishing one of them because it feels like they could be developed into something much bigger, into whole novels! Take the Elephant vanishes, or Sleep for instance.. Brilliant stories, but I want (much) more!!

So yeah, from my rambling, I think my favourite one has to be a Wild Sheep Chase. I thought the whole book was fascinating, the characters completely crazy and non-sensical, and yet, so full of life...
I love the descriptions in all Murakami's books. I think that his perception of the outside world is very well rendered in all his books, and best of all in Wild Sheep Chase.
As for the symbolism, I know I don't grasp it all at all.. I don't know if I should put it on the account of Japanese culture being so remote from my understanding, or on the account of Murakami's fascinating imagination...

What about you, what are your favourite books by him??
