Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Do you know what kind of wax you are using...probably microcrystalline (brown wax). The basics depend on what you are creating, but you will probably need to begin by softening the wax so that it is pliable. This can be done by placing pieces of wax into a container of warm water. Once the wax has softened you can begin to form it around your armature (if you are using one). A variety fo metal tools are useful to perform the carving. Often times one heats the end of the tool in a flame then proceeds to work directly on the wax to create a variety of marks, textures, and surfaces.

Wax can also be melted and poured directly over objects, or into molds. You might be interested in the "lost wax process". This is one of the oldest methods of creating a variety of metal objects and dates back to antiquity.
