Question:

Humpty Dumpty?

Why is Humpty Dumpty always illustrated as an egg? The nursery rhyme never says he's an egg.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The reason it never states he's an egg is because its original version, first printed in 1810, is in riddle form and the fact that he's an egg is the answer to the riddle. It eventually evolved into a nursery rhyme and his eggness is just assumed.
