Question:

Do you think scarlett and rhett end up together??

i'm not talking about any supposed sequels, i want to know, what you think after happens after the end of "gone with the wind"

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: No, I don't think they do.

Rhett was never one to go back on his word. He said it himself, he was too old for a second chance. He was 45 I believe, or 48? Back in that time...you were old. In reality, Clark Gable was 10 years younger than Rhett was supposed to be at the end. heh.

But when he left, he meant it. He'd tried so hard to get her to love him for so long that...maybe he was numb. If she had only met him halfway...but I think something that he says at the end of the book would have answered this quite nicely.

??I was never one to patiently pick up broken fragments and glue them together again and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken - and I'd rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived.??

No, they wouldn't have gotten back together.

In the book Scarlett, Scarlett's entire personality changed and so did Rhett's. It was not a realistic sequel.

Gone With The Wind isn't really a love story, not entirely. So it doesn't play by the same rules that romance novels do. In romance novels, true love always finds a way. Well, this wasn't a romance novel...it doesn't count. In an unrealistic world, yes, love will always find a way and no one is ever lonely. But in a realistic world, one we live in, and what Gone With The Wind is set in, those rules don't apply. People end up being lonely and living alone and never getting married and having children, and yes, never finding the one they love. I think that the fact that the happy ending isn't about love finding a way is one thing that has made Gone With The Wind so memorable.
