Question:

Is it to rebake Sculpey after it had already been baked? And is it okay to bake packaging tape?

So I am scuplting something out of Sculpey. There is this one piece where I need to bake it (to make it hard) and then add more clay to it. Is it okay to put it in the oven so this new piece is baked? Will the part that was already baked become burnt or anything?

Also, I am using Styrofoam as an armature, and someone told me to wrap the styrofoam in packaging tape before covering the armature in clay so that the clay won't stick to the Styrofoam. Would it be okay to stick packaging tape in the oven?

Thanks in advance :)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Yes, you can re-bake sculpey. They advertise that you can add to a "baked" piece in that very manner. But, to get "new" clay to stick to a "baked" piece, you may need a bottle of their diluent solution. It softens up the baked area, and lets it bond with the new area.

Just keep the heat low, and be patient. Ovens vary. When I bake it, I tend to set the oven a bit lower than they recommend, and let it bake a bit longer...but always keeping an eye on it so it does not burn.

I cannot say what styrofoam does in an oven. It does burn, and it gives off poisonous fumes when it does...so you are running a risk there.

In the future, I recommend you use balled-up aluminum foil as a filler, and wire as an armature...since both are fire-proof. They can be left inside objects during baking...and they save you $$ on clay volume.

Tape and styrofoam were never designed to be baked at 275 degrees.
