How did you get a start on your acting career? I live in a small town with no acting camps nearby and no place to try out for commercials, and the drama club at my school SUCKS! How did you get a start on your acting career?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I started by taking a class, really liked it, took another one and then got up the nerve to audition for a play. I got a call back ( was ecstatic! Didn't get cast though). That was almost 4 years ago and I haven't looked back since.
Even in a small town, you're likely to have at least 1 community theatre. Look them up, they should post auditions or contact someone there to ask. Basically, if you're in a place where there aren't a lot of opportunities, you have to take what you can get until you can go somewhere with more. Just act as much as you can, whether it's at school (despite having a sucky drama program, it's still an oppotunity to be onstage), community theatre or even something independant you can put on with your friends. Any opportunity to perform is a good opportunity.
Don't worry right now about starting a career, there's plenty of time for that later, just focus now on developing yourself into the best actor you can be and getting as much experience as you can (anywhere!) so that if you DO decide to move to a larger market, you'll be more competitive.
