Help Please with Corel Paintshop Pro?

I am using Corel Paintshop Pro for my pictures and I would like to do a silhouette on my subject. I tried to do a "negative" but I end up with a white subject and black background. How do I get a black subject with white background.

Is there a photo programme which is better or easier than Paintshop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I used to use paint shop 2 years ago.. I gave up because it really sucks. Its easier to use because it doesnt occupy too much space on the memory. BUt Photoshop is the best.. I think is worth trying to work and get used to it.
If you want to edit pictures please use Photoshop
