To friends of mine that simply repeated the question or replied that there is no difference, you may have noticed that I have asked a number of questions that concern our ability to hold a debate and understand what point another person is trying to make. This ability seems to me to be vital to a democratic system where the people need to be able to understand ideas that are being put forward by leaders seeking office and therefore power. The power they seek is power to determine the nature of our society and of the type of lives we will be allowed to live in that society. If you think the question about what is rational and what is irrational is trivial, what do you consider more important for a citizen to know about when trying to make important decisions?
