Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's about two Jewish boys growing up in Brooklyn during world war II and their friendship. And how they try to deal with having to become adults and go out into the world. It's about different Jewish communities and how they interact. It's about the effect WWII and the origin of Israel have on the boys and their families.

There is a sequel called The Promise. They are both beautiful and I recommend them both, even though only one is on your list.
