Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If you're in high school, see if you can get involved in your school's yearbook or newspaper, or check to see if your art department has a photography class. Also, check with your local community college; many of them offer summer classes to kids from junior high all the way up to seniors in high school that cover photography. Or, see if they have a regular college-level photography class that's going on in the summer. You might be able to sign up for just one class and that would get you started. Just check to see that it's a "beginner level" class first.

As for books, there are a lot of photography books available. Your local library or bookstore is sure to have a few. Look for something like a "guide to" photography or "how to" take good pictures.

You might consider picking up a copy of "Digital Photographer" magazine or "Popular Photography" magazine. Both have good instructional articles in them that can help with different areas of photography.

As for preparing yourself for a career in photography, some good art classes, even just drawing, will be of some use because it will teach you about color and composition.

There are a lot of websites that would be worth reading. One that is aimed specifically at novices is www.photographyfornovices.com It explains photography in plain English and makes it easier for beginners to understand. To get some other results, try typing "photography for beginners" in your search engine and look through the results.

Good luck to you.
