Question:

Regarding the steward of a castle, where is his 'office' located and what would it be called?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Many times the "steward" of a castle was the Knight. He kept the castle for the King, and ensured that it was there to welcome him should he visit. Also, the steward would see to the people around the castle (hamlet, village, etc) and administer the Kings laws, collect taxes, etc.
Later, when stewardship came to mean something more like manager, he took care of the estate and domestic administration. Supervised the household and events in the great hall. Stewards were also referred to as a Seneschal. His office, well, usually he had a room he used, it might be next to a storeroom, servants' quarters and bedrooms, meat and fish larders, sculleries and a stillroom for distillation of liquor. In the basement, beneath the State Apartments, were (silver) plate and glass pantries, brushing and lamp rooms, a servants' hall and wine cellar. It was simply called the Stewards Room, and was normally located on the ground floor of the castle.
