Question:

Do i need a Copywrite to Publish Poetry?

I want to Enter Online Poetry contests And/or publish my poetry.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: NO. You do not need to waste the money and effort on copyright. First off, there is no money to be made off the actual poems themselves, so you are throwing your money away. The copyright is implied and if your poem is published the publisher will take care of the copyrighting.

NEXT, never ever do as some have suggested here, and put a copyright symbol or the word copyright on the poems you are submitting. It is a sign of a complete rookie and you are asking the editor to consider you as such. Trust me, your poems are part of a huge "slush pile" and when an editor is deciding who to chose, you do not want them to question themselves on liking your poem, because they can clearly see you are a rookie. You want them to like the poem without question.

Pick up a copy of Poet's Market for other things NOT to do when submitting work, to quote them on copyright: "Don't point out the poem is copyrighted in your name or include the copyright symbol. All poems are automatically copyrighted in the poet's name as soon as they're 'fixed' (i.e. written down), and editors know this.
