Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Greco-Roman philosophy is said to go back to the 7th Century BC, when Thales of Mileto is credited with being the first Greek philosopher. After that, there were a good amount of Greek schools and thinkers, the most notable being Socrates, Plato, and Aristoteles. Later, the Hellenistic (Greek) territories got absorbed (conquered) by Rome, and Rome develops a philosophical and mythological tradition related to Greek though. Probably the most well-known of the Roman philosophers of the empire was Seneca, a stoic who was actually born in Spain (Spain, at this time, was part of the Roman Empire).

If you are asking about the link between Greco-Roman philosophy and Spanish colonization, I think that the two names that you probably need to know are Plato and Aristotle. Greco Roman thought went on to exert a big influence on European Medieval thought through Rome's colonization of the continent (and, it must be added, through the Muslims keeping the issue alive when Europe had all but forgotten of an important section of this philosophy). The writings of these two thinkers were seminal during the Middle Ages to the production of knowledge through scholasticism, a method of reasoning that attempted to reconcile Ancient philosophy (particularly the two I just mentioned) and medieval Christian theology. Therefore, at the moment of the conquest, there still would have been a good amount of influence of Ancient thought on the Christian theology that the evangelizers studied.
