Question:

Copyrighting?

I wrote a story, and I want to get it copyrighted. I heard that there's a website that you can post books/stories on and people would give you feedback. I'm sure there are a lot of sites like that, could you please give me some?

Please visit copyright.gov This is the official U.S. copyright site, and it explains copyright law in the U.S.

Except in cases of work-for-hire, copyright should ALWAYS remain with the author. When you sell a story, you do NOT give away your copyright. What you are doing is selling them limited rights to the story. For example, a publisher may ask for first time North American rights, or first time electronic rights. That just means that they want the right to publish the story for the first time in North America ot on the internet. First Time worldwide rights means they want the right to publish the story for the first time anywhere. translation rights means that you are selling someone the right to translate your book into another language. NEVER give away exclusive rights to your work, because then you will never be able to reuse your own stories!

There is a difference between copyright and ISBN. Copyright is a legal protection. An ISBN is an identification number used by publishers to identify books they publish. An ISBN is used by booksellers to order books, like a tracking number. An ISBN has absolutely nothing to do with copyright.
