Question:

Improvisation exercises?

are there any simple improv exercises that can be done with 2 people? also, are there any fun exercises that can help work on different facial expressions for acting? thanks everyone!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Ohhh tons! I'll type the ones I like the best.

Interveiw:

One person leaves the room. The Other(s) decide on who that person will be (eg. Brittany Spears, Barney, Spiderman, Oprah) then the person re enters the room (still not knowing who they are) sits on a chair. One by one the other people ask Interveiw questions, each getting easier as the time goes by. The Person on the chair is NOT allowd to say 'I don't know' or anything of that nature. They have to answer as if they know what their talking about, even though I don't have a clue. When the person in the chair guesses who they are they have to explain who they are though a question and not just blurt it out. Example: "Well, being Spongebob Squarepants is hard you know? Working at The Crabby Patty restaraunt can get really...fusterating!' After they guess who they are the game is over.

Talk Boxing: A subject is picked. Like food, christmas, Vacatoins, Animals, School, etc. and two people talk at the exact same time about the subject. Rules: 1) First person to run out of Ideas loses 2) You can't ask questions to the other person and have them answer back. 3) Basicly don't pay attention to what the other person is saying.

Party Planner: The person who is 'It' have to pretend to plan a party. One by one, the guests come in and they all have a certain personality trait. For example. One could be a theif, a chef, a person obsessed with paper! The possibities are endless. The Party Planner has to talk with the guests and react to them. He/she could get them imaginary drinks or whatever. The Party planner has to guess what/who the guests are perferably not juist blurt out the answer like in Interveiw.

Typewriter: One person (The Typewriter) Has to pretend to be typing a story, saying what she is writing outloud. The other people have to act out what He/she is typing/saying.

Freeze: Two people act out a scene with large actions and stuff. Then someone from the audience will shout 'FREEZE!' and the actors will freeze on the spot, keeping their position. The audience member will go up and tap one of the actors on the shoulder and take their position (That actor will leave the scene area and sit in the audience) Then, the person who called freeze will start an entirely new scene in those positions and it keeps going on and on.

Wax Museum: Everyone will be in a still pose as if they were wax sculptures. The Musuem owner will go around explaining what each sculpture is over and what the person is going in the sculpture. When ever the owner turns his/her back to one of the scultures or isnt looking the sculptures can move into a different position and the owner with have to keep going around explaining about the statues untill he catches one moving, thats when the moving sculpture is it.

Unfortanate Soul: There will be a bench (Made up of chairs if none are available) and one person will sit down on it. Someone will come up and sit beside them with an extremly annoying behavour! Maybe like someone obsessed with poking you or someone who clears their throat too much. Then the person origanally on the bench will react to them and eventually leave, then another person comes up and sits beside the person who had the annoying behaviour (but dosnt haveit anymore) and the new person will have a new annoyance. And this keeps repeating untill you get bored of the game.

Well thats enough for improv, lets move on to facial expessions!

Well before you do any acting you should always do the 'Lion Face exercise' this stretches out the muscels in your face so its easier to talk and such.

First Step: Lion Face: Open your mouth as wide as you can and stick out your tongue ALL the way! Open your eyes as wide as possible and pretty much make your face as big as you can!

Next Step: Prune Face: Scrunch up your mouth eyes and basicly your whole face. Make your face as tight as you can

Third step: Snout: Stuck out your lips as far as possible.

Fourth: Smile: Smile as WIDE as you possibly can! WIDE WIDE WIDE!

Last Step: Repeat this order several times. See how fast you can go! I'm so used to it I could probably do it 10 times in one second without even thinking

Well I'm too lazy to think of some more, these are the basics. Break a Leg!
