Question:

Larry Brown, Harry Crews or?

Hi, I am interested in trying any books written by either of these authors. I am leaning toward Larry Brown Which is the best book to start with? Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I admire both writers a great deal. Crews has written many books and they vary a great deal in quality. _The Gospel Singer_ and _A Feast of Snakes_ stand out as better ones. Brown died relatively young and only wrote about four books. _Joe_ is a good place to start. Both writers deal with themes of brutality, poverty and violence, but do so artfully with humanity and sensitivity. Strong stuff, not for the squeamish.
