Looking for a book about a pregnant woman captured by indians who later gives birth on the trail to thier camp

She was also captured with another woman and during the raid this womans baby was killed by an Indian who threw or slammed the baby into a tree. These women were captured and held prisoner for a few years during which the 2nd woman receives burns to her face, disfiguring her. I can't remember the author or title and I have had no luck searching through Amazon. I read this book the first time in 1997 and I believe it was a relatively new book. Please let me know if you can think of any possibilities as I would like to re-read this! Thanks!
