Question:

800 Speed Film?

OK so I went to the rodeo, with my 7-210mm 3.5 lens and 2x
teleconverter, and this year I was going to be SMART and take a 400 speed film, knowing that using shutter speeds of 1000
with 400 film would result in an fstop of around 8 and that I would lose two and still be able to shoot at 3.5. I thouhg I might even be able to use 2 converters together!!

Wouldn't you know it, it was quite cloudy and overcast. I couldn't shoot at 1/1000, and in fact could barely shoot at 1/500
On occasion I had to drop down to 1/250th....shooting wide open at f 3.5

SO Next year..I'm goin to be SMART!! I'm going to take 800
speed film!!

The question is, how good is 800 speed film. Will the trip be worth it, just to get grainy images, or are 800 speed films pretty good these days??

Get a longer telephoto maybe??

ANY thoughts??

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Kodak makes a great 800 speed professional film that is rich in color and fine on grain for an 800 speed film. It is called Kodak Portra 800 and it is worth it. Its grain pattern is very close to the old 400 speeds. I really think you will be happy with the results. Go buy a roll and try it out.
