Question:

Self-publishing and easy-access publishing?

I see a lot of publishing questions here. As a life-long writer with plenty of jaundiced experiences with traditional publishers, several years ago I explored self-publishing.

It took me several months research to unwind the maze, find the key points, and begin publishing my own tomes with Amazon as the primary market place.

I set the books up for print, designed the cover, paid a hundred bucks per title [US] to LightningSource to print and distribute, and another 100 to Amazon to enter Amazon Advantage. No other cost except the purchase of a clip of ISBN #s.

I think a lot of writer-folk might like to know the process to follow to accomplish this the cheap and easy way. Frankly, I mislike subsidy publishers and traditional publishers.

I'd be happy to share this information I had to learn the hard way if I can do it without going to a lot of trouble.

Any suggestions as to how this might be done?

Publishing with a company isn't supposed to cost you anything. Financially, that is. What it costs is dealing with publishers.
Just to clarify the previous entry/question, the ISBNs cost varying amounts depending on how many you buy at a shot. Ten cost $250 but you can buy them from other folks than Bowker... you save a bunch of money by buying them ten at a shot from the source, however. If you buy them from someone else, they have already bought them at the cheapest rate and are re-selling them to you individually at a higher rate.
I think there may be an annual fee ($25?) from Amazon Advantage to list the books, but whatever it is, it's minimal after the initial set-up.
